Jordan Farmar's Playboy.com blog: Five on 5 - April 21, 2009

What’s up, guys, I’m blogging from Staples after our playoff opener. Last week, after we finished up 65-17, I microblogged on my MogoTXT channel—“Playoff time! What all the hard work is for! Time to win this title!”

On the weekend, Kanye West got it going with his “Amazing” NBA Playoffs preview video promo. Check it out.

The road teams got three wins on Saturday with Derrick Rose leading the Bulls to an upset opening win over the defending champions, the Celtics. Rose is going to be a great player and the sky’s the limit for him. We successfully got our mission under way with a 113-100 win over Utah with everyone contributing. Former Bench Mob member Trevor Ariza got a career playoff high 21 points, and we got 33 points from our reserves—Shannon got three three-pointers, Luke had some nice dishes and I got a blocked shot and a dish to Lamar for a great jam. I’ve been having a painful tendonitis problem in my foot but it wasn’t going to keep me out.

With “showtime” 2009 here, it’s time to put on your best on the court, and you also like to look your best going to games. I get my suits and shirts from Astor & Black Custom Clothier. I’m wearing one of my custom suits in my new Five on 5 graphic—check out their website (www.astorandblack.com)—because they’ve got some great April package deals.

The lingo for what we wear to games is business casual—we are going to work. My suits are all custom-made and you get the cool experience of having a tailor come right to your house to do the suit, starting with an initial measurement session. You get to choose the type and color of fabric; they bring along samples so you can feel the fabric yourself. They also bring a book so you can see various styles, and things like the type and color of stitching you want. Everything is covered from start to finish. And then they deliver in a few weeks and also follow up with another fitting just to make sure it fits exactly how you want it. They can also create custom shirts and ties to match what you want. It’s like being a big kid in a candy store. And after they have your sizing, it’s easy to reorder new suits and shirts by selecting the fabrics and styles from the Astor & Black website.

Later this week, we’ll be in Utah for games 3 and 4, and being on the road, we get to see a lot of movies in our hotel rooms.. We’re like, “Okay, we haven’t seen this one, so let’s watch it.” We just run through them. I recently saw Duplicity—I didn’t like the movie too much although Julia Roberts is a classic leading lady and I like Clive Owen a lot, from his roles in Inside Man and Shoot ‘Em Up.

In that movie, the director Michael Davis did some hilarious and cool action scenes, like having Clive’s character stabbing another guy with a carrot. Then there was that great scene with Clive and the very hot actress Monica Bellucci having sex the whole time that he’s fending off some attackers, shooting them with his gun. Never seen that before. Pretty imaginative. And Clive still got the job done—he was multi-tasking!

I also get to catch up on new YouTube videos on my iTouch or Mac laptop—one of the most downloaded new vids is Keri Hilson’s “Turnin’ Me On” with Lil Wayne. She’s great, I’m a big fan, and she has another song I like with Kanye and Ne-Yo called “Knock You Down,” it’s got a nice groove to it. Both tunes are cool, and I’m definitely a fan. In the videos, she’s hot — but I haven’t personally met her, yet.

Thanks to Playboy.com readers Karina, Jennah, DJ Fran, Greavsie, Elisabeth, and Lesley for your questions, like what the competition is like for places coming off the bench. It’s always tough if you have to play reduced minutes, but we’re on a mission on our team—Lamar was moved to the bench, then he got to start when Drew went down, now he’s back helping us. Luke wasn’t getting many minutes, then he started a stretch of games, and he’s back with us. Overall the competition is good, because it’s going to make Shannon (Brown) and me both better, keep us sharp throughout this playoff run. Our job isn’t to come in and save the day, you don’t need to be a hero, but you do need to get all the little stuff done—bring speed and intensity, be good on the defensive end and make some things happen, be it turnovers, steals, whatever, share the ball and lead the Bench Mob, all that stuff. Just keep the positive energy flowing. And that’s something we’re both willing to do. We have respect for each other’s game and bottom line we’re teammates, fighting for the same goal, the championship.

On April 26, I’m involved in a cool event for the kid in all of us, a 5K run/walk in L.A. for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Check out the website (http://www.ccrf-kids.org) if you’re interested in helping out. Also, if you want to catch my past blogs, type Jordan Farmar into the Playboy.com “search” box and then “go,” you’ll find them all.

As for the Lakers, we’re just getting started. BTW, it’s just 15 more wins to go to the championship.

Check in for my next dish.

Wassup Jordy!

I miss you in the game! I hope your foot is at 100% better. You’ll be contributing big time in the next series, i know it! We need your game and your speed out there!

question: I know you don’t drink alcohol, which i think is an awesome example for the kids out there. Do your friends ever pressure you to drink or pick on you because you don’t drink? and do you want a girl who’s alcohol free?

Second: Its weird not seeing you play for the past 2 games. :( Ive been a Laker fan since I can remember and this is the first time, i dont feel like watching the game at all. I mean im still a Laker fan no matter what but its just feels kinda weird. Just saying.
Third: So are you guys (you, luke, sasha, mbenga) still sweeping the guys with the purple jerseys (shannon, morison, andrew, powell)??

WHY ARENT YOU PLAYING, I went to taft highschool and seeing you play is so great, it really ruins the games that you arent on that court and you are LA.

I do admire your attitude you have tho. you are a great player.

rumors are that you are leaving the lakers. all i have to say is… please dont..

kamryn | on 23/4/09

you should be saying “thank you kamryn for your question” and here’s another one; did you really hurt your foot or is that a bunch of b.s.??? i’m just wondering. it seems like odom stepped down because bynum came back…and it’s like the light is less on gasol. shannon is playing quite well, which is great for all those people who doubted him. i’m happy for the team, it’s just kind of disappointing to see the last couple of games.. you’d think that being there last
