Jordan established the Jordan Farmar Foundation in 2008 in order to make a positive impact on the community. As a native of Los Angeles, Jordan has been part of the LA community his whole life. Since becoming a Laker, Jordan has dedicated his time and energy to helping out the community where he grew up. The Jordan Farmar Foundation was established on the principle that every child deserves opportunities to develop positive character, foster positive attitudes, and live a healthy and fulfilled life…we are committed to health, hope and healing of children in need.
A few of the projects in which the foundation is involved include:
Mattel Children’s Hospital
For the past few years, Jordan has taken a special interest in the patients at Mattel Children’s Hospital. During Lakers’ home games on Sundays, Jordan invites a patient and their family to come out to the Staples center, watch the Lakers play, and hang out with Jordan after the game. The program has given the kids a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet one of their favorite NBA stars and has been a way for Jordan to give back to the community that has embraced him during his career. In July of 2008, Jordan held a reunion lunch with all of the wonderful kids he met during the year to check on the patients’ progress and to try and brighten their day. Coverage of the reunion can be found here. Jordan continues to work with Mattel Children’s Hospital and continues to keep in touch with the wonderful friends he has made there. One of Jordan’s long term goals with working with Mattel is for the Jordan Farmar Foundation to donate a “green room” for the hospital.
Seeds of Peace Camp
During the past few summers, Jordan has donated his time to help out at the Seeds of Peace Camp.
Campers from conflict-ridden areas of the world bunk, eat, and play together at Seeds of Peace in Maine to get to know the human face of their enemies. Since its inception in 1993, campers have come from the Middle East, the Balkans, South Asia, Cyprus, as well as diverse areas of the United States. Basketball always served as a sanctuary for Jordan during hard times, and he hopes that, with his help, it can do the same for today’s youth. Read Jordan’s thoughts about the camp.
Peres Peace Center Basketball Clinics

Jordan went a step further in the summer of 2008, traveling to Israel to participate in interfaith basketball camps for Israeli and Palestinian youth. Put on by the Peres Peace Center, the goal of the camps is to foster cooperation and understanding in a region where the two peoples do not often get a chance to interact with each other. Using basketball as the common language, the camps show these children that communication and coexistence is a realistic and viable option.
Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from Jordan’s “Hoop Farm” Basketball Camp are donated to the Jordan Farmar Foundation.
